Thanks to everyone for your assistance. I did contact Juraj Cisarik but he is busy helping refugees from Ukraine at this time.

This a a link to his web site which outlines the work he is doing with the refugees and how to donate:

Many families have moved to large towns or cities for work.  Do not neglect to contact them as well.

Anne, unless you speak Slovak, you should have a translator such as Juraj join you.  A couple of suggestions.

    -  never arrive unexpectedly or you will be most likely shunned

    - Bring photos of your immigrant ancestors with you.  Always a good door opener.

    - do your homework first and prepare your questions.  The memories of most living is short.  They are unlikely to have a family tree or know much further back then two generations.

I forgot to mention the CISARIK website provides surnames of people from Slovakia 2005 phone book.  Might be useful to look up potential relatives.

Juraj CISARIK lives near Kosice, Slovakia.  His site is CISARIK.COM.  Offers tours and genealogy research.  Has an excellent website.  I commissioned 4 projects with him about 5 years ago to start my family tree.

Here is the website entry for Valkovce.

Valkovce is located about 10 miles East of Ratvaj where my maternal great grandfather was born 1869.

My brother and I are taking a trip to Slovakia in the early Fall. We would like to contact someone in the Presov Region in Slovakia to do some genealogy research to locate family members that may still be living in Valkovce. Can anyone recommend someone? Any help is appreciated.
